I'm looking for a shortcut to insert a math equation for Powerpoint 2016 Mac version. I had been using PowerPoint 2010 windows, which I could 'insert a math equation' using the customized ribbon. For example, I could insert a math equation by 'Alt+4' if I set 'insert equation' function as 4th element in the customized buttons. Please see attached pictures. This is super convenient!

For PowerPoint for Mac, the keyboard shortcut is the same; you don’t need to substitute CMD. Zoom Press and hold the Ctrl key while using the mouse wheel to zoom in and out in the editor. Drag the object into position on the slide and resize it as needed by dragging any corner. Alternatively, you can highlight any text in the slide to turn that into a link. Select a picture, online picture or shape to turn into a link.
It seems that this customized ribbon function is not implemented in Powerpoint 2016 Mac so that I cannot create a shortcut in the same manner.
PowerPoint 2016 for Mac finally includes the new-style equation editor (which was already available in Word for Mac and PowerPoint for Windows). An equation can be inserted using a ribbon button (Insert → Insert Equation). How can I add a keyboard shortcut for this? Is there already a keyboard shortcut for it? For Word I could use the OS settings from System Preferences → Keyboard and set up a shortcut for the menu item named 'Equation'.

But I cannot find a corresponding menu item in PowerPoint. I can only find this feature on the ribbon, but not the in menu.
Is there any way to set up a keyboard shortcut for it? Update: Since the situation seems to be in flux, here's an update:. Older versions, including the one that was current when I asked the question, have the undocumented shortcut ⌘- ⌥- =. There is no menu item in this versions that would allow setting up a shortcut manually. More recent versions do not have a shortcut built in, but they do have the menu item Insert → Equation, which makes it possible to set up a shortcut manually.
